Rocks find new big man

Rocks sign big man

The Glasgow Rocks are proud to announce the signing of 6’9″ athletic Centre, Meneptha Darden, to fill the void down in the paint. The 24 year old American will be looking to begin his professional career with the Rocks after a successful final year at Rogers State University where he led his team in both rebounds and blocked shots.

Darden’s large frame and athletic agility should be a welcoming asset to the Glasgow Rocks as they continue their search for their first piece of Silverware since the 2002/03 Season. The Rocks have always struggled to find the ‘right’ big man and with a new season dawning, Darden may be the missing piece to the rocks puzzle.

Head Coach, Sterling Davis, had the following to say about his most recent signing: “Meneptha, I feel, is the big we have been wanting for a while now. He is very athletic, agile, and a really good shot blocker. I think what stood out about him is his intensity level when he plays the game. He is the guy who will do whatever needs done for his team to win and really seems to wear his heart on his sleeve.”

During his college years, Darden was well regarded as a big time shot blocker and rebounder, facets of the game that will go a long way in cementing Coach Davis’ lockdown defensive strategies for the forthcoming season.

His hunger and passion for basketball stood out to Coach Davis: “This guy is hungry to make a name for himself and I feel that he has not been given enough opportunity to prove his worth as yet. Hopefully he will come in and bring everything I envision of him to our team.”

More signing announcements will follow in the coming days, alongside details for the Annual Glasgow Rocks pre-season fixture on the 9th September against the USA Select. Tickets for this event are now online at www.glasgowrocks.co.uk with the event being held at the Kelvin Hall ISA.

This will be the final ever game to be played at Kelvin Hall with the Glasgow Rocks scheduled to play their opening BBL Fixture against the Newcastle Eagles at the Brand New Commonwealth Arena on the 7th October @ 5:00pm.
