Cheshire Phoenix 90 (19,41,60) (Marks 27, Gumbs 24, Myers 17)
Glasgow Rocks 79 (15,31,57) (Murray 17, Fantazia 14, Robinson 11, McNally 11)
There was considerable joy for Cheshire Phoenix supporters on Sunday night in the BBL Championship as they celebrated one of the best displays of the season so far from their team, who shot down Glasgow Rocks 90-79.
Chez Marks and Jerome Gumbs were in fine form, sharing 51 points, and with Alif Bland continuing to do a great job in the paint, Phoenix did a great job of riding out winners in a game which ebbed and flowed in both directions.
However, a blistering final period when Phoenix amassed a superb 30 points, made all of the difference as they racked up a sixth league win of an eventful campaign.
Neither team was able to make a decisive break during the early stages, and consequently the game was level at 13-13 before the home team managed to finish the opening ten minutes more strongly to move 19-15 ahead.
It was a similar story in the second period as Rocks wiped out the deficit, only for Phoenix to finish strongly as Gumbs scored the last six points of the half for his team to help them to a healthy 41-31 lead heading to the locker rooms.
Rocks needed a lift and they came storming back in the third quarter with a blistering 18-6 start helping them grab the initiative and also take the lead.
Then, with the game hanging in the balance at 60-60 early in the final quarter, the pendulum swung back in the favour of the hosts as they got on the front foot and finished vibrantly to take a super win.
