The Rocks and Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders meet at the Emirates Arena on Sunday evening as both teams look to strengthen their bids for the BBL Championship title.
Hosts Rocks head into the game in sixth place in the BBL Championship table with a 6-3 record, but have games in hand over all their title rivals. Meanwhile the Riders are top of the table with only one loss in their first 12 Championship games.
Rocks player-coach Sterling Davis knows the size of the task facing his side: “They have got off to as good a start as you can ask from a team. They have dealt with some injury issues but have found a way to persevere in spite of that. I credit Rob [Paternostro] for keeping his guys motivated and also on the job once again of recruiting quality players.”
Davis admits it’s tough to single out who poses the biggest threat to his team from the Riders: “It’s hard to say who we will key on because I have seen and followed games where three or four different guys have been the difference makers and key to their success.”
With GB international Kieron Achara’s short-term deal with the Rocks now over, Davis admits it’s tough to lose the Scottish forward, but he refuses to be downhearted: “It’s no secret that it’s a huge loss for our team as it would be any team in the league. He was able to bring so many different things to the table but at the same time, that is done so we have to keep improving within our group.”
Riders’ coach Rob Paternostro rates the Rocks’ team highly: “I have been impressed with Glasgow this season, they have many players who have made an impact and as always are well coached by Sterling.
“EJ [Harrison] is having another good season, he is as solid as they come and [Donald] Robinson is a player who has looked good when I have watched them play.”
Tickets are still available on the door for today’s game – tip-off is 5PM and there’s another event on at the Emirates Arena so we’d advise all fans to arrive early to give themselves plenty of time!
