Two sides looking for a top four spot in the BBL Championship meet at the Emirates Arena this evening as the Rocks host UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders.
Rocks head into the weekend tied with Worcester Wolves in fifth place in the Championship table having won nine of their 16 games while Raiders are fourth with a 10-5 record. The sides have already met at Plymouth Pavilions this season with the Rocks winning 97-84, and if they can repeat that victory on Sunday they will have the head-to-head decider between the teams if they finish level at the season’s end.
Despite that earlier win against the West Country side, Rocks’ player-coach Sterling Davis isn’t taking anything for granted: “We have seen them once and came out successful at their place but we have to understand that this will be a different game that can have the same result if we do what we are supposed to do.
“I thought we did a decent job of controlling their transition game when we played in November. We will need to duplicate that if we want to win the game.”
Rocks’ guard/forward Andrew Wedemire also rates the Raiders highly: “I know they are a very good and well coached team. They have a lot of good players – especially Jeremy Bell, Colin O’Reilly and Matt Shneck – who can step up at any time.”
Davis has a firm idea what he hopes from his side in 2013: “We want to continue to improve every day and win as many games as we can. We want to be in that top four and then see what happens from there.”
