The Rocks will look to complete a season sweep against London Lions when the two sides meet at the Emirates Arena this evening.
The sides met in BBL Championship in Glasgow in November with the Rocks winning 87-73, and they repeated the trick with an 88-78 win at Crystal Palace in late December.
Rocks’ player-coach Sterling Davis is surprised that Lions aren’t higher up the BBL Championship table: “This is the strongest ninth place team I have ever seen. They have so many weapons on that team that if they are all clicking, they can beat anyone.
“Orlan Jackman has really been putting up decent numbers this season especially for his first season.”
Lions’ coach Vince Macaulay is also surprised his opponents haven’t won more game: “The Rocks have really been topsy-turvy and I don’t know the reason why. Maybe Kieron Achara being in-out etc. really unsettled everyone but they are certainly this season’s Jekyll and Hyde team. One minute they look very smooth the next they struggle.
“They have many key players, Donald Robinson has had his best games against us then we see him in single figures against others – it’s odd. But EJ [Harrison] and [Gareth] Murray I feel are their stalwarts and Andrew Wedemire’s fire and desire is one of their better factors.”
Lions’ captain Mike Martin is keen to make amends for the two losses against the Rocks: “We owe them one, and it’s a game we’re desperate to win. I know all about EJ [Harrison] having played in the same side, and Sterling can really step up when he needs to and we have to make sure that doesn’t happen. Gareth Murray is also key to them and Donald Robinson is really talented – he caught us off-guard last time so we need to look at game tape and correct the mistakes we made.”
