Wily veteran Chez Marks becomes the latest signing for the Glasgow Rocks organization. Chez, who hails from the state of Kentucky, will return to the British Basketball League with a climb north from Cheshire up to Scotland.
‘I am very blessed and so excited to be a piece of the Glasgow Rocks. Over my years in the BBL, I have played against Coach Davis numerous times in Glasgow. The city was beautiful, the people were very respectful, the fans were incredible and the organization was very professional. That is what drew my interest in becoming a Rock. My expectations this season are very high as well as Coach Davis, and I want to be a part of helping him meet those expectations. All I want to do is win and bring home some trophies this year. I want to say thanks to the Owners as well Coach Davis on giving me the opportunity to become a Glasgow Rock.’
The 6’3” shooting guard has spent the majority of his professional career here in the BBL for clubs such as the London Towers, Plymouth Raiders and the aforementioned Cheshire Phoenix. He has also experienced playing in top leagues such as France-ProB and Hungary on a two year sabbatical before returning to the league.
Since Marks return, he has established a reputation as a dynamic scorer culminating numbers of 22.8 points per contest which was enough to lead the entire league in this statistical category for the 2012/13 season. Marks became a legitimate target on coach Sterling Davis’ radar when he showed that he was not only a scorer but that he was also a genuine leader as he took on a player-coach role within the Cheshire organization.
“It is always good to have a guy who will be a players leader on the court and Chez showed that leadership last season taking on a huge task for his teammates.”
“That is an attribute any successful team needs; a teammate to be that voice when the coaches is not enough and sometimes that voice is just by leading by example.”
Chez has solidified a very good reputation within the league both on and off the floor as far as professionalism and loyalty goes, which is something Rocks GM Daniel Bajwoluk is always keen on bringing in.
“Chez Marks is a born leader and I believe he is a perfect fit for our organisation. He is a true professional on and off the court with a contagious hunger to win. I look forward to seeing Chez take the court in a Rocks jersey this season.”
Rocks will be looking to strengthen their backcourt alongside Marks in the coming weeks as things move in a positive direction for the organization.
The Glasgow Rocks will be holding their annual Summer Camp at the Emirates Arena on Sunday the 28th July from 12pm-4pm. Player/Coach Sterling Davis as well as Scotland Captain, Gareth Murray will be assisting with the camp.
The Rocks first Home fixture of the season will take place at the Emirates Arena on the 6th October when they go up against the Surrey Heat in front of an expected huge crowd.
