Rocks Help Launch Inaugural Walk

Players from Glasgow Rocks and Glasgow Warriors yesterday joined 10-year-old Yorkhill  patient Jenny Cook to launch the inaugural Yorkhill Walk taking place next month.

The family-friendly sponsored walk in Glasgow on Saturday 21 September takes in some of the most iconic and historic landmarks in the city and players from Warriors will be taking part on the day.

The sponsored event is geared towards families, individuals and groups who want to come together and raise vital funds for Yorkhill Children’s Charity which provides support for children and families from across Scotland at Yorkhill Hospital and related services in Glasgow and beyond.

People of all ages and levels of fitness are being encouraged to take part and they can choose between a 10 mile and a 5 mile route.

Al Kellock, Captain of Glasgow Warriors, said,

“Yorkhill Children’s Charity makes a real difference to children from across Scotland who are treated at Yorkhill Hospital. The charity’s support for children and their families is fantastic and everyone at Glasgow Warriors is delighted to be supporting this inaugural Yorkhill Walk.”

Sterling Davis, player-coach of Glasgow Rocks, said:

“Glasgow Rocks is delighted to be supporting this inaugural Yorkhill Walk which is raising vital funds to help children and their families. The support Yorkhill Children’s Charity gives to Yorkhill Hospital and other facilities enhances the treatment and care given to children and Glasgow Rocks is proud to support this work.”

Kirsten Sinclair, Fundraising Manager at Yorkhill Children’s Charity, said:

“We are very excited to be launching our first Yorkhill Walk and are very grateful to both Glasgow Rocks and Glasgow Warriors for their support.

“There are so many incredibly brave and courageous children who are treated and cared for at Yorkhill Hospital and related facilities and we want to do as much as we possibly can to help them.

“So far we have had people registering from across Scotland so it looks like it’s going to be a great day out. I would encourage families, groups and individuals from Glasgow and beyond to sign up and help the children of Scotland.”

Online registration is now open at and is £10 for adults and £5 for children (16 and under). There is also a family/group registration for four people at £25.

Entrants will be provided with a comprehensive fundraising pack with lots of tips and advice to help them raise as much sponsorship as they can, as well as an event t-shirt, a goody bag and medal.
