Classrooms for Malawi attended the Rocks vs London Lions fixture back on the 1st October, and were asking all Rocks fans to give generously for a good cause – to help with the improvement and development of education in Malawi. Thanks to their hard work and the giving nature of Rocks fans they raised an incredible £1008 on the night.
A big thank you goes out to all that donated that evening, your generosity will go a long way in assisting many children in Malawi.
Classrooms for Malawi is a new charity set up with the sole purpose of improving and developing places of education in Malawi. Malawi is in the top ten poorest countries in the world, and as such is in dire need of our help. Research has shown that the best, and most sustainable, route out of poverty for poor individuals and communities is through education. In Malawi, many children are taught under trees, completely exposed to the elements with only rocks for seats and the bare earth for a desk, or else in crumbling, dark, dank and dangerous buildings which are completely unfit for learning in. We work closely with local communities to identify those schools in most need of our help, and work with them to improve the learning environment for their children by either completely refurbishing and, in some cases, rebuilding existing classrooms and by building completely new classes from the ground up. In the past year we have completely refurbished 13 classes, replacing roofs and floors and painting the walls with educational artwork and everything in between, and built 3 brand new classrooms form the ground up, benefiting literally thousands of children. With your help we can continue our work in Malawi and get more and more children out of poverty and into education.
