Plymouth University Raiders broke the game open in the fourth quarter to beat Glasgow Rocks and improve their hopes of a top four finish.
Leading 78-76 the Raiders went on a 10-2 run to take a 10 point lead with just over three minutes to play. Rocks got it back to 88-81 but Matthew Pressey’s three started a 7-0 tear which made the match safe.
Pressy and Trevor Setty led Raiders scoring with 21 points while Daniel Northern and EJ Harrison had 18 each for Glasgow.
Earlier Rocks held an 18-12 lead on a Gareth Murray three but Raiders quickly tied the match at 18-18 before Rocks went 25-18 up. Again the Raiders battled back to level at 25-25 and Donald Robinson’s two edged Jay Marriott’s team 27-25 ahead at the first buzzer.
Both teams continued to pile on the points in the second quarter with neither able to build a substantial lead. Twice Plymouth led by five (37-32 and 49-44) but on both occasions the Rocks made crucial scores to stay close.
By half time the visitors had battled back to 49-48 thanks to twos by Daniel Northern and Murray.
Rocks led 64-58 late in the third quarter before an 11-2 run from Raiders, capped by a Pressey triple, sent the home team into the final stanza with a 69-66 lead.
