Last weekend saw Birmingham Knights come very close to earning their first win of the season after they put in a superb performance against London Lions, before falling to a narrow, 93-89, defeat.
It gave Knights’ coach Paul Douglas a lot of optimism for the remaining games.
“We feel that we will get a win before the season is out and the Lions performance proved why we could,” he said.
“We came in with a game-plan and more or less stuck to it throughout.
“The play of Glen Izevbigie had a lot to do with it as he had by far his best game of the season.
“The difference, compared to most of the other close games, is that we made the easier shots and rebounded when we needed to. I am hoping that the performance does give us momentum going into the Rocks game.”
Douglas doesn’t expect the Rocks to be distracted by their Trophy semi-final game the following day and expects the Glasgow side to go all out for the win.
“We will need to do a great job of controlling Daniel Northern and Gareth Murray, if we stand a chance of winning,” said Douglas.
“Northern can be a force under the basket at both ends of the floor and Murray is just a livewire. Alex Marcotullio can hit the outside shot and their ball movement has been good against us, so those are two areas that we will be looking to address.”
He added, “In our first meeting they kick-started a little run with a win and obviously they will be looking to do the same on Saturday.
“I think that based on our recent results that they will be expecting a tough game and they know we will compete.”
Last time they met:
Glasgow Rocks 95 Birmingham Knights 73 (BBL Championship, Emirates Arena, Glasgow, 10/01/2014)
What they say:
Rocks’ coach Sterling Davis: “I feel like you have to come to play every night in the league and the night you decide to leave your concentration at home is the night you slip up. That is a big warning for us to be prepared for a tough game.
Aside from Brent Benson, I think Josh Rolls-Tyson, and Martyn Gayle are both very much threats who can produce a big game for them on any night.”
