Cheshire Phoenix 80 (10,32,53) (Coleman 33, Moses 19, Visockis 14)
Glasgow Rocks 74 (12,37,64) (Murray 20, Johnson 15, Urli 11)
Glasgow Rocks were on track to bring home a double-digit advantage from the first leg of the BBL trophy Semi-Final tie against the Cheshire Phoenix, but the hosts stormed back to take a 80-74 victory after a sublime fourth quarter performance at the Northgate Arena on Sunday evening.
Having led for the majority of the game, Rocks first broke away in the second period, starting the quarter with a quick 7-0 spurt to build a 19-10 advantage.
Later in the frame, a pair of free-throws by Fran Urli made it a double-digit game at 24-13, but Phoenix rallied back and finished the half only with a five-point deficit.
It didn’t take long for Rocks to jump back in front by double figures, as EJ Harrison’s long-range attempt sparked an 8-0 run, at the end of which the visitors were up 45-34. Cheshire carried the 11-point deficit into the fourth quarter (64-53), but that’s when the game started to click for the hosts, with Dominique Coleman leading the way.
The Nix star caught fire in the final period, scoring 18 points, as the hosts went on a 15-4 to tie the game at 68-all before sneaking ahead to a six-point lead, with Devan Bailey hitting a three-pointer just before the final buzzer.
Coleman led all scorers with 33 points, Victor Moses added a huge double-double of 19 points and 19 boards, while Donatas Visockis chipped in with an equally impressive performance of 14 points and 16 boards for the winners.
Gareth Murray had a team-high 20 points for Rocks, Chris Johnson scored 15 points and added eight rebounds, as Fran Urli added 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.
The Rocks know what they need to do and they will be hoping that the home court advantage is enough for them to beat the Phoenix by 7 points or more on Friday night. The aggregate winner will book their spot in the BBL Playoff Final which is to be played at the Emirates Arena on the 30th March.
Rocks fans are urged to book their tickets early for this eagerly awaited fixture!
