Up Close with Rob Yanders

As he embarks on his 4th season with the Rocks, Rob Yanders has witnessed big changes, on and off the court, with a new venue and a hoard of new players being drafted in around him.

In the short start to the season, Yanders and his team-mates have already seen ups and downs but Rob believes with some consistency this newly formed team can deliver results:

I feel pretty confident right now and feel that the team’s chemistry has come a long way already, but there is always room to improve. I believe that we will be a force to be reckoned with, as long as we are consistent, and hopefully that will come with playing more back to back games.

I truly believe that we are title contenders this season, and as long as we stay focused, we can achieve anything.

With so many new faces to the squad, Rob has stepped up to his role as captain and enjoys helping the new guys to settle in

I feel change is a good thing. The new guys are great, they are all fitting in really well, and still learning which is important as it means we can only get better.

I think that the man to look out for is ‘Chino’ Randy George. He has been training hard and playing hard, he is definitely capable of being a double-double guy for us.

Another change this season was the move to Kelvin Hall which was a huge step for the Rocks organisation.  Rob believes it is a step on the right track and is enjoying his new home venue.

I’m really enjoying it, it’s closer to the city centre, it’s better for the fans and the atmosphere is amazing. The crowd are so loud that sometimes my teammates can’t hear me call plays out on the court. It really is like having a 6th player out there with us.

As a long standing Rock, who wears his heart on his sleeve, Rob has a unique and close relationship with the Rocks faithful and he, more than most, knows the importance they play in the team’s success.

We really enjoy the support that we get from our fans and I’d ask them to continue being that 6th player and always have that hope that the Rocks can prevail and to never give up on us.

We truly appreciate all of the fans that come out to the games, because without them we would not be here. Thank you for all your support and hope to see you at Kelvin Hall for the rest of our games.
