Davis Positive for Rocks Final Weekend [return]

The SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks head to Everton today to begin their final weekend of the BBL’s regular season. Despite losing to Plymouth last Sunday after holding a 19 point lead, player/coach Sterling Davis says there are plenty of positives in his eyes.

“We didn’t get the result we wanted, but I have to look at all the things we did well. We were without JJ (co-captain Julius Joseph) and Bilal (Clarance) and we still defended well and fought very hard for most of the game.

“We didn’t have a single substitution until the third quarter and we were still up 10 at that point. We struggled down the stretch, but the we did a lot of things right to get into that position. I think the guys showed they were fit enough to play the whole game, but the foul trouble hurt us.”

Davis stopped short of satisfaction, however, as he called on his men to step it up for the stretch drive.

“I’m pleased with some things, but definitely not satisfied. I don’t think any of us are.

“We know that we have one of the most talented teams in the League, but we haven’t always put it together for the full 40 minutes. We all know that if we stay focused, we can win any game.

“It just takes three wins to win the Playoffs, so these last two regular season games against two playoff teams are good preparation. We want the wins to help our position, but we also want to make sure we go into the playoffs on form.”

The Rocks currently hold down 5th place in the BBL table. If they can hold that slot by winning at least one of their final two, the reward will be a quick turnaround for a quarterfinal clash with Milton Keynes Lions Wednseday night (23rd) live on Setanta – a rematch of the thriller just 4 weeks ago at Braehead.

INJURY UPDATE
Heading into today’s trip to Everton and Sunday’s home game v. Guildford (Braehead 5:00pm), Davis has the added bonus of both Joseph and Clarance returning to action.

Co-captain Joseph’s wrist injury has improved greatly and Clarance was given the all-clear by team physio Andy Binning (Paisley Physiotherepy Centre) to return to action earlier this week. Both have been practicing since Tuesday and both will play tonight.

PLAYOFF POSSIBILITIES
The Rocks currently sit in 5th place with two games left to play. Sheffield Sharks are equal on points with just one left to play (Sunday at Newcastle). If two of those three remaining games go the Rocks way (Rocks win or Sheffield loss), the Rocks will open the playoffs at Milton Keynes Wednesday night.

If things don’t go the Rocks way and they slip to 6th, they will likely travel to Plymouth for a Saturday night (27th April) encounter.
