SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks Head Coach, Sterling Davis will be on the look out for a diamond in the rough as the Rocks open their doors to would be stars. The Scottish Rocks annual open basketball try-outs take place this Thursday 21st August, from 7pm to 9pm, at new home of the Rocks, Glasgow's Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena.

Every year serious basketball players, over the age of 18, are invited to demonstrate their abilities, and showcase their talent, in a bid to make the cut and join Scotland’s only professional basketball team.

Rocks head coach Sterling Davis will be putting the trialists through their paces and will be hoping to find a hidden gem amongst the many hopefuls.

“There’s always that little bit of excitement that goes through your mind as a coach to see if that unknown, raw talent walks through the door and makes the open tryouts seem like the best idea ever. It’s a great opportunity for any serious or serious thinking basketball player who just needs an opportunity.”

The pace is fast and the professional standard is high and many won’t last the full two hours but Davis only has to look to his starting line up and Scotland Internationalist Gareth Murray to see that tryouts can produce stars for the future.

Three years ago Murray attended open try-outs and caught the eye of then Rocks Head Coach Steve Swanson who invited him to join the squad. After a year on the sidelines Murray was given more and more playing time by Swanson’s successor, Thorsten Leibenath and under Davis in the Rocks 07/08 campaign, Murray became a regular in the Rocks staring five. Since then Murray has grown to become a well-known and respected talent both in the BBL and Scotland International scene.

Those wishing to try-out should be serious basketball players, over the age of 18, who are willing and able to commit to practice and compete with the Rocks on a regular basis. Players interested in tryouts should email info@scottishrocks.co.uk to confirm their participation.

Media Invited
Media are invited to attend the event and are asked to notify the Rocks office on 0141 334 4900 in order for arrangements to be made with the venue. Newly re-signed Rocks Captain, Rob Yanders will be in attendance along with other current Rocks players. All will be available for interview before and after tryouts.
