Weekend Preview: Rocks on the Road [return]

Friday 13th March, tip-off 7.30pm Milton Keynes Lions vs. Scottish Rocks Saturday 14th March, tip-off 7.30pm Worthing Thunder vs. Scottish Rocks

The Rocks begin a testing run of 3 games in 5 days tonight when they travel to Milton Keynes to face the Lions.

In their second meeting with the Lions this season, the Rocks will be looking to make it two wins out of two in the Championship. The Rocks defeated the Lions back in December on their own home court and will be hoping to replicate that win when they take to the Lions den tonight.

Milton Keynes Lions coach, Vince Macauley has been impressed with the Rocks so far this season:

“The Rocks have a solid team and a solid philosophy, Sterling has taken to coaching very well, I think it’s a shame he has to contribute so much on the floor for them otherwise he would really blossom as coach. I feel sorry for their loss of Blake Shelton, you hate that to happen to any player, but I’m sure they’ll show resilience over the last games of the season.

“Obviously Rob Yanders directs their traffic, Wilbur Johnson has anchored the middle well whilst Gareth Murray is fulfilling all the potential he showed over the last three years.

Rocks player-coach Sterling Davis knows his team faces a difficult game at Bletchley:

“I think they are an experienced veteran team that can be very dangerous. Terrell Brown really does a good job of running their team.”

Tip off in Milton Keynes is 7.30pm.

The following day, Saturday 14th March, the Rocks travel on to Worthing to complete their second match of the weekend. Again the Rocks hold all of the victories over their opponents but Rocks player-coach, Sterling Davis will not be taking his opponents lightly as the Rocks play the second of back-to-back away games:

“They can be a dangerous team especially at home. Gary has done a good job in getting those guys to play hard. They have multiple weapons: strong inside game and good perimeter shooters.”

Worthing Thunder coach Gary Smith is expecting a tough game when they host Scottish Rocks on Saturday:

“The Rocks are a tough team to play and Sterling has done a great job with a squad with not a lot of depth but a lot of experience and some high quality players. They are difficult to match up with due to the height they have in a number of positions”

“In our game up in Glasgow we were in it until the last two minutes when Rob Yanders took the game over and was scoring no matter who we put on him, which is what he can do. The lose of Shelton hurts them a lot, but Marc Pratt seems to have stepped into the starting line-up and is doing a good job in his place”

“Since we last played them they have added Wilbur Johnson who brings even more experience to the team from his years in the BBL and Europe”

Tip off on Saturday evening is 7.30pm and score updates can be found at www.bbl.org.uk

With another tough game away to Guildford on Tuesday night, two wins this weekend would set the Rocks up nicely as the playoff run-in intensifies. Sitting in 3rd place but with games still to play against (and points to take from) title contenders, Everton Tigers and Newcastle Eagles, the Rocks have it all to play for in the coming weeks.

The Rocks are next in home action a week on Sunday 22nd March when Worcester Wolves travel to Glasgow. Tickets are available to buy online now by clicking here!
