Worthing Thunder kept their hopes of achieving a play- off berth in the BBL Championship alive thanks to a 109-99 victory over the Scottish Rocks at the Worthing Leisure Centre on Saturday evening.

Both sides traded baskets throughout the majority of the opening quarter but an 8-2 finish for the home side gave them a six-point advantage at 26-20 at the end of the first period. In the second quarter the Rocks got themselves back into the game and an 11-2 start to the period for the visitors took the score out to 28-31. Both teams continued to trade baskets, but it was Worthing who went into the locker rooms at the half leading 50-47 at the half.

In the second half the Thunder began to stamp their authority on the game and runs of 8-0 and 9-4 gave the home side a nine-point advantage at 74-65 midway through the third quarter. The Rocks were not to be outdone however as they netted seven of the last ten points of the third period to trim the deficit to five points at 77-72 going into the final stanza.

In the final period Worthing broke the game open with a 9-2 burst to open the quarter taking the score out to 86-74. The Rocks tried valiantly to get themselves back into the game, but a further 11-2 Thunder tear gave them their biggest lead of the game at 99-83 and the home side saw out the closing stages to secure the victory from the foul line.

Colby Bargeman led all scorers in the game with 32 points for Worthing while the Rocks' player/coach Sterling Davis led their scoring with 25 points personal.
