Rocks Cadet Men start the season with a win!!! [return]

Glasgow Rocks cadet men got off to a great start to their season defeating Reid Kerr Buddies 61-53.

The cadets have 4 players remaining from last years squad which means the team is very new, but they have been working hard pre-season and the new players who have came in have adapted well to the uptempo style of play.

The Rocks got off to a good start in the first quarter through 6 points from Chris Harper (6’1) but lapses in concentration in defence let the Buddies stay close.

Going into the 2nd quarter the teams traded baskets and a very good competitive game was the result. Jordan Mathieson (6’4) rebounded the ball at both ends of the floor very well and point guard Connaire White was very hard to guard as he constantly drove at the Buddies defence.

The third quarter saw the teams continue to trade buckets. Liam McCabe did a great job offensively as he managed to rack up 8 points through hard work and showing his basketball intelligence. With neither team gaining any advantage going into the final period, it made for a tense atmosphere and the game could easily go either way.

(Rocks 40 – Buddies 37)

Chris Harper regained his scoring edge as the final period started nailing 2 for 2 from the field. Connaire White and Liam McCabe also got their names on the score sheet as the Rocks started to pull away from the Buddies. The Buddies started to step up a gear as they clawed the score back to level it at 50 with 4 minutes to go. Coach Runga called a time out and regrouped. The Rocks came out and Stuart Mathison sealed his man I the paint, received the ball and hooked the ball in for two. This shifted the momentum back in the Rocks favour and they began to build their lead back up. Between Liam McCabe and Chris Harper, they scored 15 points between them to help seal the win for the Rocks as time ran out for the Buddies.
