Rocks Ready for Shark Attack
The season is now in full swing and the Sheffield Sharks have come out all guns blazing as they currently sit atop the BBL ladder. Tomorrow they will try and extend their lead on the BBL against our very own Glasgow Rocks, who have had a respectable start to the season.
The Rocks could very easily have been sitting on 4-0, but after a 4 point loss to the Eagles, and a last second 2 point loss to the Worthing Thunder, we find ourselves with a 2-2 record.
Considering that we are still missing a big man in our line-up we have started the season well and the boys are optimistic about the season to come. Players have stepped up and one of those players has been Scott Russell.
"I'm glad that I am fulfilling my role as an impact player and I hope that Sterl is gaining more and more confidence in me. I know that I have to make the most of the minutes that I get as it's the only chance I get to prove myself. "
Not only will the Rocks have a hard time trying to take down the hottest team in the league at the moment but we will have to make history, as we have NEVER won a regular season Championship game in Sheffield (0-20).
The boys are training hard and are all looking forward to taking on the early front-runners in the 2009/10 season in Sheffield tomorrow night, and if all goes to plan we could be part of history with the fist ever Rocks Championship win in Sheffield.
Scott believes that the Rocks can come away with an all important win.
"We need to put in a 40 minute performance, it's as easy as that. If we play smart basketball and make the most of our opportunities we can defy history and come away with a win. All the guys will be ready, and we don't want to get another loss."
In other team news, last week at Worcester Rob Yanders come down with an ankle injury and it was uncertain if he would be fit to play, but fortunately Rob has fully recovered and the captain will play come Friday.
Steve Parillon has returned home for family reasons this weekend and will miss tonights game in Sheffield. Steve will be back with us on Monday to begin training with the guys ahead of next Sunday's massive CUP tie against the Cheshire Jets.
