Rocks vs Jets - Round 1 BBL Cup [return]

Rocks look to advance in Cup.

The final first round BBL Cup tie takes place on Sunday at the Kelvin Hall, as the Glasgow Rocks will look to secure their place in the second round, by taking the scalp of the Cheshire Jets.

The Jets will be coming off a resounding 101-92 win over local rivals, the Everton Tigers, and whilst Paul Smith is pleased with his side's progress since they came together before the season, he feels that they still have a long way to go before they reach their potential. He commented: 'We played better in the second half against Everton. We are starting to play together now and hit some shots but there is still a long way for us to go to reach our potential.'

Historically, Glasgow have always been the more dominant in Cup Competition, as they hold the head- to-head 3-1 over the Jets, but the clubs are equal in home wins at 14-14, so this one could go either way.

When analysing his opposition on Sunday, Smith found that Rocks' talisman Rob Yanders, is the danger man for the Jets. He added: 'Rob Yanders runs the team as well as any point guard in the league and has done for many years now. He will be a key player for us to watch on Sunday.'

Rocks' player coach Sterling Davis commented on his side's performance at Sheffield last weekend: 'I thought it was a game we let slip' he said. 'Credit to Sheffield, who played well and closed out the game strong, but we took our foot off the gas in the last minutes, whether it was because of fatigue or it just didn't happen, we have to close games out.'

Looking forward to this weekend, for which Davis will have Steve Parillon back, after the 6'5'' Forward returned home for a family emergency, Davis added: ''It will be another big test for us. Cheshire have a lot of experience on their side which is invaluable. I think Chez Marks will continue to be a force for the jets. He's a proven scorer so we will have to be ready to try and contain him.'

Tickets for the game are available now. Make sure to book online for best seats.
