Game Preview: Rocks vs. London

Sunday 01 November 2009 (5.00pm) at Kelvin Hall
The Glasgow Rocks entertain the PAWS London Capital this Sunday at Kelvin Hall and interestingly, London will be looking for their second ever win against the Rocks.
The last time the sides met, the Rocks ran out winners by 20 points in Glasgow, but the only win the Capital have had against their opposition on Sunday was on 30th March 2008, when they won by six points at the Capital City Academy.
Despite a win against the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders and, the Capital have had a shaky start to the season, as they sit 11th in the BBL Championship table with just two points.
Player-coach of the Capital, Milek Jivens however, feels that the BBL is a tough league for his side to compete in this year. He said:
'I think this year the BBL has been very competitive. Anyone can get beat on any given night. None of the teams can be taken for granted.'
His side come into the game on the back of disappointing performances against the Worcester Wolves and the Worthing Thunder last weekend, both of which were losses, and Jivens was keen to express his frustration at the lack of focus shown by his men. He added:
'I was utterly disappointed with my teams display last weekend. I felt both games were winnable games, but we did not show up to play for 4 quarters. We should have everyone available for this weekend's game. We did have a few knocks on the weekend, but nothing too serious.'
Looking ahead to the challenges that the Rocks pose, the American was pretty sure that their point guard, former BBL All Star Rob Yanders, would be the main focus of the Capital's plans defensively. He concluded:
'We will be playing close attention to Rob Yanders. We know that everything goes through him.'
His Glasgow equivalent, fellow American Sterling Davis, is similarly singling out one player on the London side that he feels will do the most damage:
'I think (Ibrahim) Gariba will be a big matchup for us' he commented: 'He's been having a good season so far.'
On his team's current form, the 6'7'' Forward is clearly far from content:
'Right now we are not fighting. We have to understand what it takes to win; nothing will be handed to us.'
