The SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks have started the new BBL season with three strong performances, but have just one win to show for it. Saturday morning they board the Team bus with the belief that they can pick up wins at both Worcester and Milton Keynes this weekend.
“This weekend will be a good test for us,” said Rocks player/Head Coach Sterling Davis. “Back-to-back games is always tough, but it’s also a chance for us to pick up two wins.”
The two weekend contests (Saturday 7:pm at Worcester Wolves, Sunday 4:pm at Milton Keynes Lions) are sandwiched between two Wednesday home games giving the Rocks four games in just eight days. A tough stretch, but Davis has high expectations.
“I expect us to win both of these. I’m not saying it will be easy, but we’re a good team and we expect to win every time we step on the court,” he said.
The Rocks have reason to be optimistic as the entire squad are fully fit and seven different players have scored in double figures already this season. They bring a balanced attack to face two difficult but different opponents.
“Milton Keynes are a big and experienced team,” said Davis. “We know what we’re up against because they have mostly the same team as last year.
“With Worcester our challenge is the unknown. They’re clearly a stronger team than they were last year, but we don’t know as much about them. If we just play like I know we can, we should be fine.”
The Rocks currently sit 7th in the BBL table. Two victories this weekend could see them move as high as 4th.
