The Glasgow Rocks will be looking for sweet revenge on Sunday night when they face the Thunder. The last time these teams met, the Rocks had the better of the game leading at every change, until a three pointer from Reggie Bratton in the dying seconds gave the Thunder an ultimate get out of jail free card and a victory by 2 points. This time the Thunder will need to travel up north to Glasgow, and try to beat the Rocks at the fortress, AKA Kelvin Hall, where the Rocks are 4-1 this Championship Season.
The Glasgow Rocks and Worthing Thunder face each other for only the fifth time in BBL history on Sunday evening. The Thunder will come into the game incredibly confident after an emphatic 104-90 win over the Newcastle Eagles last weekend at home, and Head Coach Dave Titmuss had nothing but praise for his side's performance. He did however insist that success must breed success in terms of what follows beating one of the league's premier sides: 'Our guys really gave Fab (Flournoy) and the Eagles the respect their Programme deserves and I think that that kept us focused and intense for most of the forty minutes' he said: 'Obviously, it's a huge win for us and the first time the Thunder has beaten them. It was also the first time since our opening game of the season that we've had our full roster fit. I really liked the way we closed the game out, we made some smart defensive plays that triggered an 11 - 0 run. This is a performance and result that we will build on.'
This result also meant that the Thunder had two players in this week's BBL Team of the Week, with Kadiri Richard and Ville Makalainen making the cut. The former had an impressive all-round display of 12 points, on 6/9 field goal shooting, as well as pulling down 7 rebounds, blocking 3 shots and dishing out 6 assists.
Makalainen was a standout in the game against Newcastle to earn his spot this week, with 23 points, 5/8 field goal shooting, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, as well as knocking down 10 of his 12 free throws and shooting 50% from behind the arc.
Titmuss was delighted with the form of the two big men, and said that having American point guard Sherrad Prezzie-Blue back, was key for his side: 'We've really missed Sherrad's back-court leadership and as his wrist continues to respond to treatment I think we'll see more and more of his influence. Kadiri (Richard) continues to come out of games at the top of our player performance rating stats. The stats give values to positive and negative contributions and there might have only been one game this year where he wasn't the most productive individual on our team'.
Sterling Davis, player-coach of the Glasgow Rocks, said the following on the Thunder: 'It will be a tough game, like all of them are. Worthing are playing good basketball right now, and they are very well coached.'
