GAME PREVIEW - Rocks vs Raiders Wednesday 16th Dec 2009 [return]

Rocks looking for 5th straight when they travel to Plymouth.

The Glasgow Rocks will be making the long trip South tomorrow when they take on the Airwaves Plymouth Raiders on their home court. The Raiders are looking for their second BBL Championship win this season, as a club blighted by injury put out a full strength side on Wednesday evening. The all time head-to-head between the BBL's two most geographically extreme teams, is held by the Rocks, who have won 14 of the last 19 encounters between the two sides. The Raiders beat the Rocks 76-71 at the Braehead Arena back on 13th April 2008, but Sterling Davis' men had the last laugh in this rivalry, as they overcame the Devon outfit by a single point back in February this year. The scoreline of 75-74 will surely add some spice to this fixture, and Davis said he is looking forward to meeting the Raiders: 'It will be another tough test for us' said the former Brighton Bears, London Towers and Sheffield Sharks star. He compared the fortunes of the Raiders to that of his own team, and said that the Plymouth Pavilions being the venue would be a key factor in the outcome of the game: 'Plymouth have not had an ideal start to the season but neither have we. We have to be ready to play against a tough team in an even tougher venue' he added.

Gary Stronach's Raiders face a tough test of their character this week, as after very few days to prepare, they take on the Rocks followed by Sunday's fixture against the Guildford Heat. Despite a startling beginning to the 2009/10 BBL season, Stronach remains positive. He commented: 'We face a very strong Scottish Rocks team on Wednesday, and in Rob Yanders they have one of the best point guards in the league. Sterling certainly seems to have them playing well and I feel that they are one of the dark horses for the championship title' he added: 'On Sunday we face Guildford Heat. We have played them once already this season and lost by three, it was a close game which we felt we could have won if we had put in a better first half performance. Preparations are short and sweet this week as we have had only two days to prepare for the Rocks followed by two days to prepare for Guildford. Hopefully we should be fully fit for both games.'
