Glasgow Rocks point-guard Rob Yanders guided his team to a tough 70-75 win at Cheshire Jets to maintain their grip on fourth place.
Yanders scored a game-high 37 points and hit the go-ahead three pointer to make it 70-71 with 46 seconds remaining. After Paul Peterson had missed two free throws Yanders and Jessie Sapp then iced the match from the line.
In a see-saw match Rocks had led 11-22 near the end of the first quarter before Chez Marks’s three on the buzzer reduced the deficit to 14-22.
Marks’s three started a 17-5 run for Jets which saw them take a 28-27 lead with 5.39 to play in the second. By half time the teams were locked at 35-35.
Rocks had the better of the third quarter to take a 53-59 advantage into the final stanza. An 8-0 Jets burst restored the home team’s lead before Rocks once again went in front at 63-68 on the back of a 5-0 tear.
Jets responded with a 7-0 run of their own to take the lead for the final time at 70-68 until Yanders’s three.
