GAME PREVIEW: Glasgow Rocks vs. Milton Keynes Lions 28th Feb, 2010 [return]

Rocks hope to further strengthen their chances of finishing inside the top four.

The coaching staff of Glasgow Rocks and Marshall MK Lions are going to have to cast their mind back considerably when the two sides face each other this Sunday. Last time they played against each other was on Friday 2nd October, and with the Lions having one game over the Rocks in BBL history, the Rocks will want to level the series, deny the Lions the chance to steal the head-to-head for this term, and hold on to third spot.

Although he is pleased with his team’s current form, Rocks player-coach Sterling Davis sees the league title as a two horse race, between Newcastle Eagles and Sheffield Sharks, as he explained: ‘I thought we had a pretty good weekend. We showed a lot of composure to pull out a close victory at Cheshire, which is never an easy place to get a win. Then we came back the following day and put out a very good effort against Essex. It’s tough to say right now (who will win the league) with first and second being so close. Sheffield have been very consistent this season whilst Newcastle is still Newcastle. They have added a very effective player in (Andrew) Sullivan so it will be interesting to see who can consistently win the games they are supposed to win.’

Looking at his own group, the American born big man was particularly satisfied with the contribution of long-standing point guard, Rob Yanders. He added: ‘He has really stepped up this season leadership wise on a daily basis which carries over into the game. This is indicative of his performances in games especially as of late.’

Lions boss Vince Macaulay pointed to the play of veterans Mike New and Dru Spinks, when asked to identify who was the most consistent on his Lions team, who have seen the addition of EJ Harrison, Dawud Morris and Frank Holmes as the three import players this season. Macaulay commented: ‘When you look for consistency on my team, you can't look further than Mike New and Dru Spinks, however we have tried all season to work on consistency across the board. Mike's work ethic is incredible in the game, especially when you realise he is over 40 years old and regularly competing against players that are twenty years his junior.’
