When Glasgow Rocks meet with PAWS London Capital on Sunday, they will be looking to hold on to that all-important third place, meaning they get home court advantage in the Playoffs. Being ten points behind second placed Newcastle Eagles, Sterling Davis' side will be desperate not to slip up against the hard working Londoners who have, despite struggling this year, inflicted defeat upon Airwaves Plymouth Raiders, Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders and Essex Pirates.
Capital player-coach, Milek Jivens, looks forward to an interesting match up between the Rocks, who Capital have only beaten once since their entry to the BBL in 2007. He said: 'I think it will be an interesting match with our inside presence against the Rocks guard play. We must limit them to one shot and cut down on our turn overs.' He added in reference to last weekend's performances: 'I thought we had a tough loss against the (Plymouth) Raiders and lacked consistency against the (Cheshire) Jets. As a team we have mostly improved, and we are starting to make moves in the right direction.
His opposite number, Davis, agreed that Sunday would present introducing match up problems for both sides. He said: 'I think it will be a good match-up against London. They have a good mix of athleticism similar to us so it will be good to see. I thought we had a great weekend (last weekend). Both our opponents were right there with us in the standings so for us to come out with two solid wins gave us a little cushion.
BBL history has seen some close games between the Capital and the Rocks, including a 79-78 Rocks victory back in the very first BBL game between the clubs, and the Capital beating the Rocks 78-72 in London towards the tail end of the 2007/08 season. Last season, the closest they got to the Glaswegians was an 85-90 defeat in November 2008, but this term, the Rocks dominated the fixture against London, as they ran out 83-65 winners at Kelvin Hall back on 1st November 2009. With GB big man Randall Hanke having now departed the Rocks and Jivens having added to his side in recent weeks, it remains to be seen whether the form book can be upset by the Capital this Sunday.
