GAME PREVIEW: Glasgow Rocks vs. Plymouth Raiders 28th March 2010 [return]

Rocks are back in action at Kelvin hall

Glasgow Rocks and Airwaves Plymouth Raiders meet on Sunday, as the Raiders make the long trip North to Scotland to try and keep their slim play-off hopes alive, the Rocks player-coach Sterling Davis is demanding that his team put in a better performance than their 88-80 loss against Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders last Saturday: 'We have to understand that you have to really be on top of things when playing on the road, especially against a team like Leicester who are playing so well right now. We didn't put together a road performance. We got caught up in the atmosphere instead of sticking to what we do as a group.' He added: 'Everyone knows that losing Rob (Yanders) is a huge blow to us. His leadership on the floor has been the biggest thing on both ends of the floor.'

The Raiders also lost out to the Riders last weekend, the night before Glasgow visited Leicester, and Raiders chief Gary Stronach said the following ahead of this game: 'It's always tough to play Glasgow at their gym. They (the Rocks) are having a good season and will be eager to finish in the top four.' He added: 'We were very disappointed with our performance against Leicester, not taking anything away from them (the Riders), they controlled the tempo of the game for the last three quarters.'

Although the Rocks are still without talisman Rob Yanders, Stronach said that it is the collective that has the potential to hurt teams when it comes to matching up with Davis' side: 'Individually Rocks can hurt you in all departments, but I think its their team chemistry that makes them such a formidable team' he concluded.

The Raiders beat Glasgow on the West Coast earlier this season, as they sneaked a 77-74 win just before the Christmas break, and with the Rocks having won the last battle 75-83, the series is on the line, which could prove important for the home play-off berth hopefuls Rocks, or the the play-off chasing Raiders. Whilst Glasgow will have to keep an eye on Florentino Valencia, who is eighth in the league in scoring with an average of 19.3 points per game, Jessie Sapp will be the man that the Raiders will be trying to subdue, as he has stepped up since the injury to Yanders, and leads the league in assists with 7.2 per game.
