The Rocks will start their Double Header Away Weekend against the London Capital, and will be hoping to extend the gap they already have on the chasing pack who are all after that 3rd spot.
Despite the gap in league positions, Rocks player-coach, Sterling Davis, clearly rates Saturday's opposition highly. He said: 'I think we will match-up pretty evenly, London have a good combination of athleticism and talent and even though they have not had the ideal season, they can still put out very good performances. I think (Ibrahim) Gariba is the big threat for the Capital. His ability to play inside, step out and shoot the jumper and put the ball on the floor can cause tough match-ups for any team.'
His Capital equivalent, Milek Jivens, said the following, as his team go into the game off the back of a 64-73 loss to basement rivals, Essex Pirates: 'We are looking to keep fighting all the way through till the end of the season. We know we don't have any easy match ups and we are playing against teams that are fighting for play off positions. We won't have much practice this week because of games during the week, and I am very disappointed by our display this weekend. I thought it was a lost opportunity. However, we will stay in the fight.'
Last time the two franchises met was at Kelvin Hall, less than a month ago, and it this fixture, it was the Rocks who dominated from start to finish, as they ran out winners 85-62. Whilst the game will be one of the first back for Rocks stalwart, Rob Yanders, it was Jessie Sapp who dominated for the Rocks last time against the Capital. He scored 20 points, whilst Steve Parillon added 19 and Mike Copeland chipped in 15 points. For the Capital, Davis has a reason to be wary of Ibrahim Gariba, as the Centre had 18 points to lead the Capital's scoring against the Rocks last time. Prior to that fixture, on 1st November 2009, it was much the same story, as the Rocks romped to an 83-65 home court win. However, the Capital have beaten the Rocks on one of the eight occasions that the two teams have played against each other, as they beat them 78-72 in London back on 30 March 2008.
