Rocks Celebrate Easter with two vital BBL Championship Wins [return]

Rocks move closer to cementing top four finish.

The Rocks have a great Easter weekend as they record 2 vital away wins against the Capitals and the Heat. If the Rocks beat the Leicester Riders next Sunday at home on the 11th April, they will guarantee themselves a top four finish and most importantly a home Quarter Final on the 25th April... The Rocks are hoping that the Rocks Faithful attend the game on Sunday which could decide where the Rocks finish in 2010.

On Sunday the Rocks managed to bounce back from a tough first quarter, at the end of which they were 26-17 down, to comfortably beat Guildford Heat tonight 74-98 and all-but end the Play-off hopes of the Surrey outfit.

The opening minutes looked like a three point contest, as Julius Joesph's early three was matched by Rocks stalwart, Rob Yanders. Eight points from the Heat then saw them go 11-7 up early on, and baskets from Chad McKnight, Tayo Ogedengbe from the free throw line and Joseph, saw the Heat go 14-9 ahead, as only Steve Parillon could answer for the Rocks with a deuce of his own. Although a three pointer from Rocks' player-coach saw the Scottish side get back into the game at 16-12, the Heat closed out the quarter with a 10-5 run to lead 26-17 after ten minutes.

The second quarter was a different story, as Davis, Yanders, Gareth Murray and Jessie Sapp all scored in a 10-2 run which cut the deficit to just one point at 28-27, with 6:27 left in the half. The sides then exchanged scores until a Murray three pointer tied the scoreline at 32-32. The Rocks then dominated from here, as they closed the quarter out 17-5 to take a commanding 37-49 lead into the half time break. They then stretched this to a twenty point margin by the end of the third stanza (61-81), and ran out 74-98 winners thanks to 19 points from Rob Yanders, 18 points from Jessie Sapp and 17 points from Sterling Davis. The Heat were led by former GB International, Julius Joseph, with 21 points, whilst Kenny Langhorne and Chad McKnight contributed with 18 and 16 points respectively.
