GAME PREVIEW: Glasgow Rocks vs Leicester Riders, Sunday 11th April, Kelvin Hall. [return]

Rocks vs Riders in the most important game of the season for both teams.

One of the biggest games of the weekend takes place this Sunday, as two sides battling it out for home court advantage in the Play-offs go head-to-head at Kelvin Hall – Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders and Glasgow Rocks. Whilst the Rocks come into the game on the back of a mini three game winning streak, the Riders will want to put behind them two straight defeats to fifth place Cheshire Jets, which followed a club-record breaking nine consecutive wins.

The man in charge in Leicester, Rob Paternostro, expressed his dissapointment at the way his side played in the 91-82 defeat at Northgate Arena last Saturday: 'We were very disappointed with how we were performed, and we felt like one of the keys to the game was not turning the basketball over, allowing them to get easy baskets off our turnovers' He said: 'After the first quarter, we did just that – they had thirty points off our turnovers, and any time you do that in a game, you are in trouble. You have to give Cheshire credit, they have veteran players that have won a lot of important games this season, and they have executed far better than we did.'
Paternostro and his squad face a new challenge this weekend though, as their game against the Rocks is proceeded by one against first placed Newcastle Eagles. He added: ' With the Rocks, the season series is at one game each - one game we played without Bradd (Wierzbicki), one game they were without Rob Yanders. This weekend as far as I know, everyone is available. They have done a good job this season, when they have lost they have come back and played well with no long losing streaks and you have to admire their consistency.' He finished: ' Playing on the road up there will take an intelligent and committed effort from the team to get a result.'

The Rocks have visited the John Sandford Sports Centre twice now, most recently losing 88-80, but also beating the Riders 66-87 early in the New Year. In the last fixture between the two teams, on 20th March, it was Molten BBL Player of the Month, Jason Johnson, who led the Riders to victory with 24 points personal, whilst Shaun Durant scored 13 points and Wierzbicki's return obviously helped as he matched Durant's total. The Rocks were without talisman, Rob Yanders, that day, and when he played in the previous game, the Milwaukee native scored 23 points. Jessie Sapp, who was held to just four point in the next meeting, bagged 24 points and 7 assists back in January, so this guard combination will be high on the defensive priority list for Leicester.

Make sure you book your tickets for this mammoth encounter on the 11th April at Kelvin Hall. Tip-off is 5:00pm and doors open at 4:00pm...
