The SAMG VERVE SCOTTISH ROCKS have linked up with Central Scotland Police to support a global campaign which seeks to end violence against women.
The 16 Days of Action for the Elimination of Violence Against Women runs from November 25 to December 10 and involves groups across the country participating in local activities to highlight the fact that violence against women is unacceptable.
As part of the campaign Rocks stars Sterling Davis and Maurice “Squeaky” Hampton will feature in posters to be displayed in schools and sports centres across Forth Valley displaying the message, “THESE HANDS ARE NOT FOR HURTING”
Rocks General manager, Bruce Cook stated,
“We are particularly pleased to support this campaign. Violence has no part to play in professional basketball and neither should it form part of a relationship. We hope that by supporting Central Scotland Police we can help get the message across that domestic violence is totally unacceptable”
Detective Chief Inspector Jacqui Rennie chair of the Forth Valley Domestic Abuse Strategic Group, stated,
“Research has shown that a woman is assaulted on average 33 times before she reports it to the police. Children are also the unseen victims of domestic violence as they often witness their parent being assaulted. Men are also victims too with about three per cent of domestic abuse cases featuring male victims.
“Domestic abuse is about offenders exercising power and control over their victims who are often left isolated, and at one extreme subjected to violence whilst at the other end of the spectrum abuse can take more subtle forms.
Anyone with information should contact their local police office or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
