GAME PREVIEW: Glasgow Rocks vs Mersey Tigers, 22nd Janaury, 5:00pm @ Kelvin Hall. [return]

Glasgow Rocks player-coach Sterling Davis is hoping to field a fitter team when his side return to action against Mersey Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

Veteran forward Davis and influential point guard EJ Harrison have both been missing from the Rocks side in recent weeks, and they have only won two of their six games since the beginning of December, but Davis was happy to have a blank weekend last week: "I think it has definitely been a plus for us" he said. "We have been dealing with so many injuries in myself, Mike, and EJ. This basically bought us some time to try and heal the best we can at this point in the season.

Rocks go into the game in fourth place in the BBL Championship table with a 7-6 record, but have played the most games in the competition. Meanwhile the Tigers head into the weekend on a seven game losing streak and are tenth in the table with two wins from 12 games.

Despite that, Davis expects a tough game at Kelvin Hall: "They are a team that is improving every game. They have not got off to the best start but have shown some promise as of late. When we met them at their place we walked out with a pretty comfortable victory but also know not to expect the same this time around. As the season progresses, so should teams and that's our mindset. I think David Aliu is their influential player. He knows what it takes to get it done and is a proven winner within the league."

Rocks won 92-62 when the sides met at Knowsley Leisure & Culture Park in October, but Davis doesn't expect an easy game on Sunday: "I thought the last time we met, we shot the ball extremely well and did an excellent job keying in on their main offensive threats. We will need to duplicate those points to come out well against them this time around."

The Rocks went down to a big defeat against old rivals Newcastle Eagles in their last outing, and Davis was upset with the result: "It was a disappointing game for us in the second half. It seemed as if we just completely ran out of gas after the half-time break. It was very uncharacteristic of our team this season to come out in the second half the way we did. Charles Smith once again put them on his back and made play after play for them."

Tigers' coach Tony Garbelotto is impressed with how the Rocks have coped with their injury crisis: "Sterling has quietly done a fantastic job with numerous injuries. I don't think any coach has suffered so much. They are playing extremely well.

"Mychal Green was hot for the first two months but Andrew Wedemire and Danny Huffor have been the real stand out players lately. We did not do anything well the last time we played them. We will need to play at the top of our game to come out with a positive result."
