Clarance Shoots for 3-Point Crown [return]

Bilal Clarance, sharpshooter of the SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks, is favoured to win the BBL’s inaugural 3-point Shootout contest Sunday at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena.

Competing against representatives from nine other British Basketball League teams, the Danish national team captain enters with a 50% 3-point shooting average this season, best amongst all entrants.

“It’s a real honour for me to represent the Rocks in this contest,” said Clarance. “I’m really looking forward to the day. It should be a lot of fun.”

The participation of Clarance is made possible by Rocks partner SAMG (Stewart Asset Management Group). The Glasgow based company are sponsoring the Rocks entry and Clarance will wear the now familiar SAMG logo on his vest for the contest.

“It was great of SAMG to step up and make this all possible,” said Rocks’ General Manager Bruce Cook. “Having partners like SAMG really adds to the things we can do, and hopefully Bilal will deliver a victory for them.”

On his chances to lift the trophy on Sunday, Clarance is cautiously optimistic.

“There are a lot of great shooters in this contest, so I know it will be tough. I may have the best percentage on paper, but it all comes down to who gets hot on the day. Then again, I know if I feel good I have a real chance to win it.”

Molton 3-Point Shootout contestants (current 3-point shooting %):
Sam Bradley - PAWS London Capital (37.1%)
Joel Burns - Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders (37.8%)
Bilal Clarance - SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks (50%)
Allister Gall - Kularoos Plymouth Raiders (30.3%)
Justice Graham - Sheffield Sharks (41.6%)
James Life - Worcester Wolves (47.1%)
Richard Midgley - Everton Tigers (44.1%)
Richard Murphy - BiG Storage Cheshire Jets (38.6%)
Rob Paternostro - Team Birmingham Panthers (35.3%)
Dan Wardrope - Guildford Heat (25%)
Adam Williams - Team Birmingham Panthers (30.4%)
Terrence Woodyard - Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders (34.4%)

Clarance will have the added challenge of competing in Sunday’s contest on the back of two consecutive Rocks games on Friday and Saturday nights.

Friday the Rocks travel to Everton to face Richard Midgely and the Tigers in a crucial BBL Trophy contest. The Rocks downed Everton by 86-79 Sunday at Braehead. A second Rocks victory would set up an all-or-nothing contest against Newcastle for advancement from their group to the Trophy semi-finals.

Friday’s game is followed by a League contest at Leicester Riders on Saturday. Leicester sit just 2 points behind the Rocks in the BBL table with the teams splitting their two match-ups so far this season – the away team winning each time. Leicester’s John Sandford Centre is a tough venue for any visiting team, so the Rocks need a focused effort to pick up the two points at stake.

Rocks fans are hopeful that Clarance will find his shooting touch on Friday and stay hot through Sunday.
