Twilight Rocks Take the Big Court [return]

The Twilight Rocks Under 16 squad will face Cumbernauld Chiefs on Sunday at Braehead Arena. The Twilight group are the first junior squad of the SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks and are made up of the best players to come out of the “Twilight Basketball” programme run by Scottish Sports Futures (www.scottishsportsfutures.org.uk) and often attended and supported by Rocks players.

The Chiefs have their own connection to the Rocks as they’ve had Rocks players attending their training sessions on an annual basis for the past few years. The Chiefs are also one of the Rocks most loyal supporters amongst the basketball community, regularly making their way to Braehead to support the BBL’s lone Scottish side. They’ll certainly be familiar with Sunday’s venue.

The Twilight team have struggled in their first season with just one win under Scottish Rocks former Assistant Coach Ross Hutton. Hutton says his team made progress, but there’s a long way to go.

“We have struggled with consistency this season in virtually every game. Teams come at us with full-court pressure and with enthusiasm on offence but it takes us until the 3rd to get going.

“More often than not we win the second half by 2 or 3 points but that’s not good enough. Our players must get into the habit of starting each game with passion and unity.

“The improvement we have made since August has been significant and with such a young team, we will be much stronger and more skilled next season.”

Hopefully the team will keep their focus on the remainder of this season and more specifically their opportunity to play at Braehead on Sunday. Good luck to all.

Tip off is 2:15.
