Clarance Warns of Dangerous Life [return]

Bilal Clarance and the SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks will travel to Worcester Saturday to face the Wolves. Clarance knows first-hand just how dangerous Life can be.

“James Life is dangerous,” says the Rocks’ Danish sharpshooter. “He can really shoot the ball and we’ll have to keep an eye on him.”

Life is the League’s leading scorer averaging 25 points per game. He was also crowned champion of the League’s 3-Point Shoot-Out contest last month where he faced off against Clarance and eight others as part of the BBL Cup festivities. Clarance reached the final round of the contest before losing out to Life. However, Clarance currently sits atop the BBL statistics as the League’s best 3-point shooter making 49% of his attempts.

With only 10 games left in the regular season and the desire of home court advantage come playoff time, the Rocks have their work cut out for them. Every game is important to the Rocks who sit 5th in the BBL table. The top 4 teams will earn the right to host quarterfinal playoff games at the end of April.

The Wolves currently hold down the 8th and final playoff spot, so they will also have plenty to play for. In addition to Life, Worcester also has the League’s 3rd leading scorer in Anthony Paez (24 pts per game), so the “danger” tag is warranted. Clarance knows the key to victory will be a familiar theme.

“We’ve seen how good they can be, so we’ll have to come out ready to play and really try to get our defense back on track,” he said.

Player/coach Sterling Davis has been preaching defense to his squad and the media for most of the season. He continued that theme in this week’s preparations.

“It all starts with our defense,” said the 6’ 6” Texan. “If we’re solid on the defensive end, that keeps their scoring down and it triggers our offense. We take a lot of pride in our defense and we know that Worcester are a high-scoring team, so we’ll have something to prove to ourselves on Saturday.”

Rocks fans will look for that proof in the form of a quiet Life.
