Braehead Arena Showers Rocks Tickets on Children [return]

The SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks are pleased to report that their host venue, Braehead Arena, has purchased 1,000 tickets to the Rocks upcoming match against Milton Keynes Lions (Wed 26 March) to be distributed to local children.

Rocks players were on hand Tuesday at Braehead Shopping Centre to celebrate this grand gesture with a literal shower of tickets onto 51 eager school children from Bishopton Primary School waiting below.

Braehead’s General Manager, Peter Beagley, commented on the ticket offering,

“It’s a big game for the Rocks and we’re delighted that Braehead Arena is once again playing host to a major televised sporting event. (Setanta Sports 2, 7:30pm)

“I’m sure everyone who comes along to the match will enjoy an exciting game and the youngsters from Bishopton Primary will have a great time catching the free tickets.”

Once the tickets had all touched down, the children were invited to ice skate at Braehead Arena before returning to school.

Tim Burges, Deputy Head Teacher at Bishopton Primary was thrilled with the opportunity,

“As a school, we’ve been promoting basketball for about 10 years now and most of the kids are part of the local basketball club (Bishopton Broncos). We’ve been bringing the kids to Rocks games ever since they moved to Braehead (2002) and today has been an incredible opportunity for the kids to meet the players in advance of this big game. It’s going to be an exciting night and we’ll definitely all be there to cheer them on. We can’t wait!”

Big Game
The Rocks-Lions match is a crucial fixture in the British Basketball League as the two teams battle for the 4th and final home playoff spot. The Lions currently sit just above the Rocks in the League table.

The Rocks and Lions have met twice previously this season with each team winning once. Milton Keynes claimed a narrow 3-point victory in October, while the Rocks reversed that result with a 22-point victory last month.

Big Prize
In addition to the excitement of the game, all in attendance may also enter a free draw for the chance to come down onto court at half-time to attempt a shot from half court. If the ball goes in, the lucky fan will win a brand new car. The car is being put up by Rocks sponsors SAMG and Verve.

To Claim Tickets
While many of the tickets are being distributed directly through Renfrewshire and Glasgow schools, the tickets may also be claimed individually for any children via the Rocks web site (www.scottishrocks.co.uk). Any parent who purchases an adult ticket at £5 may also claim up to 4 child tickets compliments of Braehead Arena. To activate this promotion, simply enter “BRAEHEAD” in the yellow promotional code box.
