The 4th place Milton Keynes Lions come to town to face the 5th place Rocks and home court advantage in the upcoming BBL playoffs is at stake. A win for the Rocks will move them into prime position to overtake the Lions.
BIG PRIZE
In addition to the important game, ticket interest is being fuelled by the chance for one lucky fan to win a car. Rocks sponsors Verve and SAMG have put up the brand new Volkswagen as the prize if the selected fan can sink a shot from half court.
Other sponsors are also contributing to the festive atmosphere by offering additional prizes and giveaways on the night. Rocks web partner NS Design will distribute the ever-popular “thunderstix” inflatable noise makers to the first 500 in the main stand. Verve, Paperino’s Restaurants, Pro Life Fitness Centre, and Rock Radio will also contribute to the prizes on offer.
BIG BUZZ
The game will also be the first Rocks home game in six years to be shown on television. Setanta Sports 1 will carry the game LIVE and many schools and basketball clubs are coming out in force to show their pride and hopefully be seen on tele.
Tim Burges, coach of the Bishopton Broncos, will be bringing more than 100 from his club.
“It’s going to be an exciting night and we’ll definitely all be there to cheer them on. We can’t wait!”
Several sponsors have also purchased tickets for their staff or customers. The excitement kicked off nearly two weeks ago when Braehead Arena purchased a large block of tickets to be offered free to local school children. Those were snapped up quickly.
BIG GAME
Rocks players have been focused on this game ever since they pummelled the Birmingham Panthers in 2 consecutive games by 47 and 51 point margins the past two Sundays.
Co-captain Rob Yanders says there are two sides to all the hype.
“It’ll be an exciting night for both the team and the organisation. The atmosphere will be great with the big crowd and it’s great that the whole country can see it on TV.”
But the American adds a word of caution.
“This is an important game and we’re treating it like a playoff game. We know we need to win to keep our goals within reach, but we can’t get caught up in all the hype. The big crowd will definitely give us a boost, but we’re approaching it the same way we would any other big game. It’s all business from our perspective.”
In addition to the excitement of the big event, player/coach Sterling Davis talked about the opposition they’ll face:
“We know Milton Keynes and we know we have to come out to match their physical inside game and quick guard play. The will definitely come in focused and ready after the last meeting at their place (Rocks won 67-89). We have to match their intensity if not exceed it in order to come out with a good result.”
