Murray to Dunk for Rocks [return]

AS REPORTED IN THE BBL NEWSLETTER:

Gareth Murray has been confirmed as the representative from the SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks in the 2008 Molten Dunk Contest, taking place as part of the BBL Finals Weekend at the National Indoor Arena on Sunday 4th May

The Molten Dunk Contest will see competitors from teams up and down the UK soaring through the arena in an effort to outshine their peers and impress the judges and the crowd with the aim of being crowned 2008 Molten Dunk Champion and taking home the trophy and prize money.

Murray is in his third season with the Rocks and is a Scottish international. He has featured on the big occasion with the club in two BBL Championship Playoff Finals and a BBL Cup Final, meaning that he has twice played at the NIA in recent years.

This season he is averaging 6.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in the BBL Championship.

The 6'6" forward has gained a reputation for explosive dunks, and indeed has been caught on YouTube practicing some of his throw-downs with team-mate Maurice Hampton. Check it out here, he misses the first one, but never fear as ingenious use of the gym wall helps him recover!

The winner of the Molten Dunk Contest will be that player who receives the highest total score from the judges after the competitors have been whittled down to just two finalists. The judges will be scoring on the basis of their perceptions of: 1) style, 2) athletic ability, 3) creativity.

Do not miss the return of the Molten Dunk Contest, one of the highlights of the BBL Finals Weekend, as Murray looks to finish off his season in style.

NOTE: Murray will only feature in the contest if the SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks do not make it to the BBL Championship Playoff Final (the main event that is preceded by the Molten Dunk Contest).
