Rocks Community Clubs (RCC) is an after school participation basketball sessions that take place for pupils aged 8-12 throughout Glasgow. Their aim is to give participants who take part in SSF’s Jump2it program the chance to play basketball outside of school in areas where basketball was previously not catered for.
These small sessions take place weekly during term time and focus on improving basic fundamental skills while playing fun games, hopefully kindling a passion for basketball. Our Rocks Community Clubs are formed in communities linking lots of different primary schools together and SSF let the players choose their own team name and design their own logo. The logo is used to design the club strips, for which all of the players fundraise for during one of their regular sessions.
These clubs with their new identity are also given the chance to take part in Monthly Mayhems. These competitions take place in central venues and allow the teams to play in friendly competition against each other every month. This competition gives the players a chance to show off their newly found skills.
SSF also work closely with local clubs and basketballscotland to provide those who want to take the sport further the opportunity to do so. SSF have already seen previous RCC members progress through the RCC structure to represent Scotland.
Clubs are run throughout the school year and new participants and volunteers are always welcome, just pop along to your nearest session. If you would like to be involved in volunteering please contact Derek via emailing derek@ssf.org.uk or by calling 0141 218 4640.
