The Emirates Arena is a custom built arena ideal for hosting any number of sporting events. With an athletics track, velodrome, sports halls and Glasgow Club gym facilities the arena has something to suit everyone – from members of the public to elite athletes.
The arena has the capacity of holding up to 7,000 spectators and will stage the badminton during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
It also has a 200 metre, 6 lane athletics track which is hydraulically operated to allow for other events, such as Glasgow Rocks games and the Commonwealth badminton, to be held.
The athletics track will be used for events such as the Glasgow International Match held each January. It will also provide the athletes of Glasgow with a perfect training venue throughout the year. With throwing cages, long jump pits, a 137m warm up/sprint straight and pole vault mats, it really is the perfect place for training.
And while the athletes are training the infield can be used for a variety of activities including basketball, badminton, netball and much, much more. It’s going to be a real hive of sporting activity!
The velodrome, constructed by world renowned designer Ralph Schuman, track is made from Siberian timber and has capacity for 2000 spectators, with room for a further 2000 temporary seats during major events.
However, the velodrome isn’t just for elite athletes, although it will become the home to Scottish Cycling. Anyone can take the opportunity to enjoy cycling and ride the track. But it’s not just a case of turning up with your mountain bike and cycle clips and off you go. There is a specialist type of indoor bike that you’ll need along with a helmet and pedals. Luckily you’ll be able to hire all the equipment you need to come and start up!
The Arena Sports Hall is perfect for a whole range of indoor sports and will provide the perfect backdrop for two of Glasgow’s main sports teams, The Glasgow Rocks and The Glasgow Wildcats.
The hall itself will have the space for 12 badminton courts as well as 3 basketball courts. However with the capacity for a full size basketball or netball court and over 1000 spectators the sport hall will become a renowned venue up and down the country.
The Glasgow Rocks will make the Emirates Arena their home court, not only playing games from the here but also basing their offices on the fifth floor.
The new Arena will provide the people of Glasgow with a fantastic opportunity to get healthy and stay fit. It has one of the biggest Glasgow Club gyms in the city with well over 55 pieces of equipment in the gym, and with views overlooking the Velodrome and the Indoor Arena there surely won’t be a more inspiring place to train.
Club members will also enjoy the usual range of fitness classes in both a custom build dance studio and the sports halls. There will also be 4 outdoor five a side pitches to help keep our national game thriving.
The Rocks have everything they need under one roof at the Emirates Arena. Sterling can train the team in the sports halls before putting them through their paces in an athlete’s only Conditioning Suit, whilst the Rocks office staff will have the best facilities off the court – ensuring the team can thrive and grow in Glasgow. On match-nights you, the fans, will have access to greatest fan facilities in the league!
