Club Statement: End of 2019/20 Season

The British Basketball League (BBL) today announced that the 2019/20 season has officially come to an end and that there will be no championship winners.

When the season was postponed Glasgow Rocks had completed 75% of their championship games and were clear at the top of the table with only 5 games remaining. It is disappointing but not in the least bit surprising, that the BBL board have decided to dismiss the efforts of our coach and players who at the time had proved themselves to be the strongest team in the Championship. Glasgow Rocks accept the decision of the BBL and will make no further comment on the matter.

The cancellation of the 2019-20 season means that we are unable to fulfil our remaining two regular season home fixtures. We have opted to give fans who had tickets for the scheduled games on the 12th and 19th April 2020 a choice of options:

Option A – You can request a refund of your ticket purchase by sending an email to info@glasgowrocks.co.uk providing full details of your ticket purchase (including booking reference number) and clearly stating ‘REFUND’ as your preferred option.

Option B – You can request a voucher for a game in the 20-21 season (full details of fixtures will be made visible when known) by sending an email to info@glasgowrocks.co.uk providing full details of your ticket purchase (including booking reference number) and clearly stating ‘VOUCHER’ as your preferred option.

Option C – You can opt to do nothing – but in doing so you will very kindly have donated the cost of your ticket purchase to the running of Glasgow Rocks Basketball. There is clearly no obligation for you to do so, but Glasgow Rocks would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank those fans who exercise this option.

We hope everyone stays safe and well during this time. Sport has quite rightly taken a ‘back seat’ in recent months with the priority for all of us being our health, wellbeing, and safety. However as we start to return to the ‘new normal’, we look forward, when the time is right and when regulations and safety permit, to welcoming you back to the Emirates Arena for the 2020-21 Season and to cheer for the Rocks!
