Rocks fall to Newcastle Eagles in OT

It wasn’t to be for Rocks in their first trip to the Eagles Community Arena as they fell to the Eagles 104-98 in Overtime.

Newcastle pulled out to an early 10-6 lead over Rocks on the back of 6 quick points by Darius Defoe. However, Rocks managed to claw their way back as Kieron Achara and Ali Fraser combined for 13 points to take the lead at 24-29 by the end of the 1st.

As Eagles went scoreless to start out the 2nd quarter this allowed Rocks to extend their lead to 13. Eagles would pull this back but Rocks still held the lead at the end of half at 45-52.

Rocks would maintain the lead for the majority of the third quarter up until the final minute when Eagles’ Drew Lasker knocked down a three to put Rocks up 69-68.

The final quarter was a back and forth affair as both teams fought for the lead. Tadas Rinkunas came out f the gate with 4-point play to give Rocks the lead once again. Tadas would go on to score 11 more points in the quarter.

With one minute left Rahmon Fletcher layedΒ in the ball to put Eagles up 89-86. The with just half a minute on the clock, Tadas knocked down another tough three-pointer to tie the game with 24 seconds left. Both teams couldn’t get it to go and the gam went to Overtime.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for Rocks as they were outscored 13-7 in Overtime, giving Rocks their second loss to the Eagles this season.

Rocks now return to the Emirates to take on the London City Royals in the second leg of the BBL Trophy semi-final at 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon.
